December 2002 Tip of the Month: Mailstored & Mailhelp

Channel 1 is full of questions that get asked repeatedly...our server tip for this month addresses 2 of them, involving the mailing of games & help files. Two useful commands to know are: mailstored, which allows you to have a game sent to you by email, and mailhelp, which will allow you to email a help file to yourself, that you can print off and read at your leisure.

Let's take a look at the helpfiles, where you'll find all the info you need:

mailstored

Usage: mailstored player1 [#, player2, journal_slot]
LIMITED TO REGISTERED USERS
Mails to you at your email address the moves of player1's game, either game # from player1's "history" table, the "stored" (adjourned) game between player1 and player2, the game from the user's journal, or a stored game you have with that player.

Examples:

mailstored Hawk [for a stored game you have with Hawk]
mailstored Hawk 65 [for a history game played by Hawk]
mailstored Hawk DAV [for a stored game between Hawk and DAV]
mailstored Hawk K [for a journal game from Hawk's journal]

Other useful commands: "examine" helps you review the game; "smoves" displays the moves; "sposition" displays current game position; and "smposition" is a combination of both smoves and sposition. Also, the 'pgn' variable affects the format in which games are emailed to you.

mailhelp

Usage: mailhelp [filename]
LIMITED TO REGISTERED USERS
Mails a specified helpfile to your e-mail address. If no filename is specified, a list of available help files is given. For example:

mailhelp -- to display all help files that can be emailed
mailhelp messages -- to email you the 'messages' help file
