January/February 2003 Tip of the Month: mamer
mam stand, mam sgrid, & mam grid
When you are playing in a tourney on FICS, and you want to check on how
you are doing in the tourney, there is a command to find this out.
The command is: mam standings

As you can see, with this completed tourney, TripleCheck won the tourney,
since he finished with the best score of all the players with a score
of 3 points from 3 games( 3.0/3.0 )
The final position of the player is shown in the Rank column.
The seed column shows where the player was ranked. Some players
with a lower seed number may be higher ranked than some others;
they are seeded with a lower number due to the late-join option.
The player's handle is shown, along with the rating. Some players
only played two games, as shown by the 2.0 to the right of the fraction
sign.
Some tourneys have more than 3 rounds (the default setting on SS
tourneys). You can see all the pairings of a tourney that has more than
3 rounds by typing the command: mam sgrid

In this tourney, we can see that, for example, SacButt played the white
pieces against misterd in round 1, and drew (=), while andreasw played
black against Arknard, and won.
In some later rounds, you'll see that some players were not paired,
by the symbol ( ----- ). Some players, in round 1 are shown with the
symbol ( =late ). This means that they late-joined a tourney, and got
a half-point.
Another way to see the pairings in a tourney is to type: mam grid
In a tourney with more than 3 rounds, this command will show the
current and two previous rounds
(or if the tourney is finished, it will show the last 3 rounds).
