"End-of-2002 Summary and new 2003 season"

January 30, 2003

Results

We had total of 118 players in one of the last Battles! It's our new record. Well, I can see we might go 150 or even 200 players each week pretty soon.

The last Battle of the year 2002 defined the Grand prix winners. We extended the prizes from top 5 to top 15 players in the Grand Prix standing with top 5 receiving full subscription to all 60+ eBooks, from 6 to 10 receiving 2 eBooks each, and from 11 to 15 receiving 1 eBook each.

Grand Prix winner (#1 place in the Grand Prix final standing) is ThoBjo! He scored 84 points and Bulten is just 1 point behind him! ThoBjo is the official "2002 Chess Battle Player of the Year" and will receive appropriate certificate along with his prize of full access to 60+ eBooks for 2 years!

Frozenshade(IM) is awarded with "2002 Chess Battle Master" as he was the one playing in the most Battle Games during year of 2002. He played in total of 5 Battle Games (final games of the event). He will also receive the certificate (you can see the samples of the certificates on our website) along with his prize of US$ 30 dollar eGift certificate from Amazon.com.

TeemuTH is our official "2002 Chess Battle Champion." He earned this prestigious title by winning the Grand Battle Elite Event in special by-invitation-only tournament. Only Elite members were able to play and those are the ones who played in any regular weekly Battle Game. You can find the list of qualified players online on our official website at http://www.freechess.org/Events/ChessBattle
as well as the complete coverage of the Elite event including the very final Grand Battle Game between TeemuTH and Frozenshade with all its comments!

"2002 Chess Battle Champion" as well as his runner-up received great prizes as full subscriptions to daily chess newspaper. The Champion also got the US$ 30 dollar eGift certificate from Amazon.com. And you can count on some more surprise prizes!

In conclusion, we would like to thank all of YOU players for making Chess Battle such a huge success! There would be no battle without you! And of course we are happy to say nice words and thank our lovely FICS for providing such an awesome venue for the Battle events to take place!

Thank you all and we are waiting for you to be with us in this New 2003 Year! With your help, Chess Battle proved to be a big success and it will continue in 2003 as usual with all the previous sponsorships, prizes, features, etc. and you can count on more in the this New Year.

Sincerely,
Your Chess Battle team.
