disconnection
Users sometimes get disconnected from the chess server while playing games.
Disconnections occur for various reasons:
o There may be a huge lag on the internet and the user is cut off.
o An internet router (relay system) may have trouble and cut off
communications between some users and the chess server. item A user's
computer system may have needed to reboot unexpectedly.
o A user's internet service provider may have experienced difficulties.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE GAME WHEN A DISCONNECTION OCCURS?
-----------------------------------------------------
In most cases, the game is stored (adjourned). However, these special cases
apply:
o For games between two registered players, a game with 10 or fewer half
moves, 5 moves for each player, is aborted.
o For games with an unregistered user (either registered-unregistered or
unregistered-unregistered), if the unregistered player disconnects he/she
forfeits the game. If the registered player disconnects the game is
aborted.
o If a user on the abuser list disconnects, his/she loses the game
automatically. (See help abuser)
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I LOSE CONNECTION DURING A GAME?
----------------------------------------------------
Try to logon to the server again as soon as possible. When you return to the
server, contact your opponent immediately in a tell or a message. Explain to
your opponent what happened. If the game is stored, ask your opponent to
continue the game. If your opponent contacts you about continuing the game,
do not ignore him/her. Please resume the game as soon as possible. These
procedures are part of good sportsmanship. If you lose connection and refuse
to continue the game, you might be placed on the abuser list (see help
abuser)
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY OPPONENT HAS A DISCONNECTION DURING A GAME?
------------------------------------------------------------------
Be patient. Wait a little while to see if your opponent is able to return
right away. If he/she returns, contact him/her and ask to continue the stored
game.
{What if my opponent refuses to continue when they return?} Give your
opponent several opportunities to resume the game, and perhaps a week to do
so. If he/she refuses to continue it or ignores you several times, send a
message to the Adjudicate account and explain the circumstances.
WHAT IF MY OPPONENT DOES NOT RETURN?
------------------------------------
Leave him/her a message and ask to continue the game. Wait about a week for a
response. If you do not hear from your opponent, consider asking for an
adjudication (read help adjudication and "finger Adjudicate").
SPECIAL NOTE
------------
Intentionally disconnecting from the chess server constitutes grounds for
being added to the abuser list. You may not disconnect from a game in order
to avoid losing the game or to analyze the game and continue it later. See
help abuser.
